A Tsunami experience and a view of my craft room

As many of you have heard about the tsunami warning we had here in Hawaii this past weekend, it was an experience for me and my family. We live right up the street from the beautiful beach which meant that we needed to evacuate in case we were hit with giant waves. My family started prepping before midnight packing our necessities and other belongings so we could leave our home when the sirens went off at 6:00 a.m. We were able to go to my sister's home in Kailua. Besides packing clothing and our living necessities, it hit me that I wouldn't be able to pack any of my craft things because there was no room at my sister's house for it nor time to pack it all before we had to leave. I kept reminding myself that we needed to worry about ourselves first; material things can be replaced - so sad. Thank goodness the tsunami was cancelled and we were able to go back home. For me, I couldn't think in a moment's notice what things I needed to pack. You just don't know until you are faced with making these kinds of decisions in a heartbeat.
It was a good thing that we had a pet carrier for Mochiko. She was so upset when she arrived at her new temporary home. I could see the anxiety in her facial expression. Here's a couple of photos of Mochiko when we got home. She was exhausted!
She didn't budge for hours! I think we all slept well that night.
Anyhoo, I wanted to share some photos of my craft room since I cleaned up a bit and had some inquiries as to what my room looked like. It's so hard to keep your room clean when you are constantly creating. Just random shots of my room...This is one of the counters and some of my ribbon bins. On the floor, you can see that I store all of my marvy punches in drawers. On the top two drawers are some of my clear stamps.
Here's one of my shelves holding scrapbooks, raks, miscellaneous sizzix dies.
My drawer full of stamps, mostly stamps by TGF, CC designs, Magnolias, Gorjuss Girls. I ran out of drawer space and am now storing them in binders.
My Sizzix shelf. I sold/gave away a whole bunch of dies, ran out of space! The shelf above has binders of Quickutz dies and miscellaneous stuff.
My ribbon cabinet. I'm still not happy with the organizing of these shelves, but this will do for now. I had a hard time cleaning especially the bottom shelf as this shelf was mom's shelf of floral ribbon. Mom used to make bridal bouquets, corsages and lei's. I spent a good amount of time crying while trying to clean cuz it brought back alot of memories.

Here are some of my loose stamps from various companies. I sorted the stamps by categories. I also have baskets to hold my punches - I was shocked that I owned so many Martha Stewart punches!
Here are all of my SU punches. I think I have all of the SU punches. The reason why it looks like there are so many is because for some of the punches, I own 2 or 3 of them (for classes). My 8 1/2" X 11" paper shelf.
My Big Shot station. I have my embossing folders in a plastic container and all of my nesties and Sizzlet dies are in these drawers.
Here's a view of my work table. My stamp pad caddy and the drawer that slides out. This table was custom made for me when I used to paint t-shirts way back when.
Here's a front view of my work table. Where's the chair?? Here's the wierd thing about me, I cannot sit and stamp/craft. I have to stand!
Thanks for sticking with me for this super long post. I hope you enjoyed your tour of my room. I actually didn't take a photo of my drawers of 12x12 papers! Happy Monday! Can you believe that it's March? I'm working on my March class projects, so announcement and pics of them to follow soon. BTW, if you're interested, the classes will be on March 13 and 14...a formal post will go out soon and I didn't forget about the OCS - that is coming up soon too!

TFS your craft room, Teri. Although you have a fully stocked craft room, at least it's organized - something I have to work on. Yes, material things can be replaced but should learn to use it ... I know I have to and not just save it.

I was glad you all were safe and out of harm's way this weekend. I can understand your distress in packing as I have had to do it during the Mississippi River floods and also living in Florida for all the hurrican warnings. Not fun, but the most important thing I grab first are all my photo albums and they are always packed in a wooden carton so it is always ready to go. Those are irreplacable of all my childhood, my children, grandchildren.

so many pictures of a well known place for me. I can just close my eyes and see where everything is! I know that it's sad, but human nature loves material things, otherwise we would never buy anything. so glad everyone was safe! hopefully it was a good day to hang with family...Mochiko is too cute! so exhausted from her little excursion! hahaha! have a good Monday...as it's back to the grind!

Hi Teri,
I was so worried about you and your family! Glad to hear everything turned out OK. I don't know what I'd take with me either. Probably my stamp binders and Copics!

TFS your craft room with us too. Its so challenging keeping craft areas organized so you can find stuff!

good to know that you were in a safe place. I thought the same as you, what to take if we really had to evacuate. What a tough decision! My kids sighed when I said that I guess it would be them first! LOL! Love all the pic of your craft room, what a collection!
I prefer to stand when crafting, too! Take care!

Thank God you are all safe and sound and so now you can keep on using all of your wonderful crafts in your WONDERFUL craft room. Your craft room looks so neat and spacious compared to mines. I'd post it on my website once I take it. Hopefully it won't blind you.

I didn't know where in Waimanalo you lived, and was hoping you and your family were safe--especially Mochiko!

Thanks for a great tour of your stamp station! I think it's so cute that you stand and create--and you're such a tiny little thing!

Thank heavens the tsunami was not as predicted and everyone could relax after that, and especially with your family living so close to the beach! My goodness, your craft room is like a store! I don't know what you DON'T have, but I know you PLENTY! Don't ever feel guilty because I know you make good use of everything in there and you're always creating something wonderful! I could live in there forever! Cami
